Hi all Caithness-ites.

Has anyone any information about the MACALLAN (etc) families who were in Wick, Thurso, Olrig, Bower and the general vicinity from the early or mid 1700s until the mid 1800s. I am interested, also, in their surroundings, their "times", their SPOUCES' (spice?) families, church affiliations, trades/careers, etc. My first known Macallans are:

GEORGE, b. abt 1720? and his wife KEATHARINE DOLLAS, who had a son:

JOHN, christened in Olrig, 1746 in Bower. A later record states that John was of "Auchqueye". He m. 1768, Olrig, MARGARET SWANSON. They had a son JAMES.

JAMES, christened Bower in June 1783. He m. MARGARET WATER, dau of Donald and Elspet (Bremner) WATER, Murkle. They had twin sons JOHN (a cooper??) and JAMES (a shoemaker?), b. September 1812

JOHN, b. Sept 1812, m. CHARLOTTE MC GREGOR of Pulteneytown. Their son was DANIEL MACALLAN, b. 1849, Wick, my husband's great grandfather. I believe he went to Ireland as a fairly young man. Daniel d. in a train accident in 1912 in London.
