This little fellow was being really protective of his nuts!

Awww, LIZZ, that's so cute! :) I love watching squirrels - we get quite a few in our garden.

Is that not the hugely villainous grey squirrel?

Heard only this week that they had made their way into the highlands now and that the red squirrel's days are now numbered there as elsewhere in the country.:(

The villain is not the squirrel it's the stupid people who thought it would be clever to introduce a foreign species!
Fortunately the red squirrel is still hanging on in places where it's natural habitat has not been destroyed and is vigorously protected so hopefully they will continue to survive and delight those of us who have had the privilege of seeing them in the wild.

Couldn't agree more...that's why I was saddened to hear that it had breached the Highlands.

One of the delight of a journey north is seeing the red squirrels that used to be commonplace down here but are now very rarely seen.
