Once upon a time a long time ago, when Dellwak was fit and thin, Thurso used to have a folk festival.
A band called The JSD Band used to come play there, they sounded a bit like Runrig.
Does anyone know what happened to them?
Does any of thier music still survive and, if so, where can I find it?

You should try asking them on the Footstompin.com forum - one of the regular posters there might know.

Thanks Douglas Cowie.
I found them again in musicscotland. com.
There are two albums from the late 90's that I think I will buy.
It looks like Country of the Blind is no longer available though.
Shame really, thats the one I remember too

Brought back lots of memories reading about JSD Band. I went to concert and dance in the Assembly Rooms way back in the '70s. Still couldnt hear properly the next day, they were loud ! but oh so good. Sure Ive still got old LP in the attic. Must look it out, find something to play it on and reminisce :)

I loved the JSD Band, and saw them perform at the Thurso Folk Festival in the early 70s. They were absolutely brilliant - Celtic Folk Rock at its very finest!! You just couldn't sit still listening to their music - had to get up and dance! I also attended a Steeleye Span concert at Viewfirth in the early 70s, and thoroughly enjoyed that too.
Great times, great music - great memories!!

The JSD albums I ordered from MusicScotland. com arrived yesterday and I played them this morning. The new one “Pastures of Plenty” shows that the lads have mellowed a bit with the ongoing years, but it is alright.
The album “For The Record” has got a great collection from their 3 earlier albums.
Fishin Blues is not included I am afraid Douglas, but Sarah Jane is, and loads of others I had almost forgotten.
My better half came home and caught me doing a jig to one of the tracks. She thought I had finally flipped and it was time to call out the men in white coats. But I don’t care – you just cannot help but dance to this music.
Great album and it brings back great memories.

Dellwak, thanks for letting us know what you thought of the albums. "For The Record" - I might just order that myself!

No doubt it will have me a jiggin' too, but I'll just make sure my sons aren't around when I do so. Those two young men would be bent double with laughter if they caught me! On the other hand, they might want to join in! Last year they came to see "Enter the Haggis" with me, and they were as impressed as I was. ETH is a Canadian band with some similarites to the JSD Band. One of the members, Craig Downie, is originally from Scotland. I'm willing to bet you would like them too, Dellwak, and their music is available on Amazon.

Thanks for the tip Sporran.
I just visited their home page www.enterthehaggis.com (http://www.enterthehaggis.com).
They sound great. I will have to see if I can get some of their music.
