...not to mention bacon, ham, and all processed meats given the dire warning about this allegedly cancer causing grub in the news today ?

I have bacon once or twice a week - love it....can't give it up... Sausages about the same but

I'm done with bangers now though...it's fresh smoked Mackerel for me from now on...on healthy toast...but then the Mercury in the water might get me!! aagh, is nothing safe?

Two a week (I think it is) runs a five fold increase in risk of bowel cancer.
The latest health warni....scare released today.

Though we're now told Eggs are good for you...no cholesterol probs...it's probably all the product of some fevered minds. However...common sense tells me sausages ain't great really.

Nothing putting me off my full Scottish Brunch on a Sunday, Bacon, Eggs, Sausages (various types, beef, pork) Black Pudding, Red Pudding, Liver Sausage, Haggis Sausage, Sliced Sausage, all Grilled of course and not all at once but a different menu each week and Tinned Tomatoes, if I feel in the mood.

If you buy your bangers from the local butchers then ask them if they use E128 colouring. First they go after our mince, now our bangers.:confused

Eating has become such a science these days and everybodys an expert .
Every thing in moderation I think. Mum used to say a little bit of what you fancy does you no harm.
Mind you she was 22 stone when she died.
If you eat a balanced diet with exercise to match I am sure we will be ok.
Best get that bike out I think.lol

Is it what's in the sausages that deemed bad for us?? or just 'cause it's meat?? I remember reading something about we should eat no more that 3 (I think) portions of red meat a week. (Mind you some sausages don't contain much meat anyway just all the gubbins that's left over...yuck!! lol)

Venison sausages from the butcher though is very nice indeedie.....:Razz

I think mum did have a very good life thank you TBH.
I think back on her with fondness now and remember that she realy enjoyed her food. I dont think you would have convinced her sausages were bad for you.lol

We had some pork and apple bangers last night, they were lovely! Put it this way if the bangers don't get us then something else will.... ;)

This is getting ridiculous next they'll be telling you not to eat as that too will give you cancer ;)

Me I'll eat what I like,in moderation .

I agree with the basic sentiments expressed here. I'm sick and flurping tired of turning on the radio of a mornin' and hearing of whatever the latest health scare is.

The odd sausage won't do us any harm...in the past, as a truck driver I have put up with a less than healthy diet but all that changed ten years ago when I became a regular, nightly visitior to my own house.

I do think processed meat should be an occasional thing though rather than an everyday one. It's hard , especially when one is on a budget. Luckily we can spend whatever we want to on food...just me and OH now.

I'm borderline diabetic (type 2) allegedly.....even though I have never been 'obese' it's a
little annoying that the two things are so often linked. I watch sugar intake and go for stuff like fish , chicken and turkey...although I'm not rigid (yet) and have the odd steak.

We're all going to die one day...I just hope I get several years of leisure somewhere other than England before I go...for that reason I might cut down on bangers a bit.

Black puddin's fantastic Golach...now and again...I always look forward to B & B tours in Scotland and elsewhere for the black puddin' ...Stornoway last year was fabtastic..Oh! and 'Tordarroch' in Dornoch- mega brekky...a highlight to be savoured...it was absolutely huge...and so tasty...blimey! I'm back there now, in my mind..disbelieving as it was wheeled in...took us all aroond the top coast to Scourie, did that lot.

(p.s. 'red pudding? I don't know what that is, wifes 'never heard of it' either)

Sausages either home made or from a reliable seller will still be eaten at our house:) On a tight budget but no processed food here thats full of rubish, watch what the family eats and works out cheaper when there are 7 of us:D

For a special treat Percy, I sometimes shop here, you have to pay a little more than the normal butchers, but Crombies are specialist sausage makers
