What a Brilliant night we had at the Latheron Hall for Presentation Night.
I would like to thank Helen Budge for calling in to ask us if we would like to attend, it was just great!
And also a huge thanks to everyone who was there and made us feel welcome, what a community!
We are quite new to the area, and brought 45 dairy goats to Mid Clyth, mostly Rare Breeds (Golden Guernseys) but the people here are just Tops!
Couldn't help but put it into verse.
Not one of us expected, a night like we all had,
At Latheron Hall, came one and all, the weather still quite bad.
But this was presentation night, the hall was getting full,
The place was buzzin, full of crack, and so, as I recall,
We had a drink, or maybe two, and then the meal began,
Lentil soup or wholesome broth, hot, straight from the pan.
And then a buffet, what a feast, with simply everything,
A splendid spread, with all well fed, fit for any king.
Followed by exquisite sweets and coffee, it was grand.
How they did it I don’t know, it must have been well planned.
Then after all had eaten, the speaker took the floor,
A lass called Jazzy, what a card, she told us jokes and more,
She gave us there an insight, to all that must precede,
That qualifying entry, the labour and indeed,
Not least the dedication and through it all I saw.
The pride amongst the folk therein, and what it all was for.
And with the presentation of the trophies it was clear,
The younger generation got some silverware just here.
And rightly so, how things should go, for they will carry on,
The ways and the traditions, after you and I are gone.
And after all the photos, formalities all done,
They cleared away the tables and the dancing then begun.
With everyone enjoying of the evening at its prime,
We knew no more until things came, around to raffle time.
A host of cracking prizes, we even won some wine,
So with our Sunday dinner, we’ll enjoy it, me and mine.
But folk were up upon the floor, dancing once again,
Bairns as well, and I could tell, this was a time just when,
Community together, all genuine, no less,
Thank you for our welcome, to your County of Caithness.
