We went to Seton Sands many years ago - at the same time as the Glasgow Fair. Very noisy!

Caravans on site are very good.

In/around Edinburgh has Dynamic Earth, Zoo, Butterfly Farm, Botantic Gardens, Skiing. etc. If your kids are small you can spend a day at the huge Toys 'r' Us at Craighall shopping centre.

We went back to Edinburgh a couple of years later and stayed at the Mortonhall caravan site, which is much nicer - slightly more expensive though.

Stayed there a couple of years ago and had a great time. Bus service into Edinburgh is excellent.
Apart from the things listed by H, a trip to the Scottish Parliament Building is very interesting (even the kids enjoyed it) and a visit to see Concorde at the National Museum of Flight might be something different to do - they even had little science shows on for the kids when we were there.
Hope you have a great time

I went to Seton Sands a couple of years ago now with 5 kids. We went along to Gullane where there is a fantastic beach. The walk down is a bit like going to the big sand dune at Reiss but it is well worth making a day of it. You have to pay for parking though. Also further along is North Berwick which has an outdoor pool (a bit like the Trinkie but surrounded by sand). Sealife centre and there are great rock pools. The town centre is worth a wander - antique shops, gift shops, woolies etc. Further along the coast again is Dunbar which has a good swimming pool and nice harbour - not so much else and the town is a bit run down but there is a fab chippie who does chippie sauce (red sauce, brown sauce and vinegar mixed together) Its also the birth town of John Muir (as in John Muir Trust) and has a museum in his honour. We all enjoy that part of the coast and have gone back and camped in all these towns over the years, I agree that the bus service to Edinburgh from Seton Sands is excellent. Great value and you can have a glass of wine with your lunch and not worry about driving back.

Hi plumber,

A visit to the following beach is well worthwhile.:D

Yellowcraig

Named best UK beach for urbanites in search of the sea by Condé Nast Traveller (2007), this long sandy beach is popular with families and dog walkers. There's loads of room for the kids to run about, fly a kite or enjoy a game of football. If you prefer to take things at a more leisurely pace, you can take a gentle stroll along the sand, taking in the great views over the Firth of Forth to Fife and the island of Fidra.

Yellowcraig beach is east of Edinburgh, just before North Berwick on the A158.

Other Orgers have made some great suggestions already - I love this part of the world and especially enjoy the beach at Yellowcraig, the Museum of Flight at East Fortune, North Berwick with its Sealife Centre, beach and rock pools, and its attractive shops...and you could take a boat trip out to the Bass Rock as well if the weather is kind.

Top of my list though would have to be Tantallon Castle :D -fabulous views and fresh air, and it never gets crowded, there's lots of room for all ages to stroll/run about.

If you enjoy castles, Dirleton Castle is also well worth a look.

Hope you have a great time! :D

Plumber,
heard lots about Seton Sands, mostly good,
try this web site for locations to visit, and as said earlier, the bus service from the campsite to Edinburgh is very good and runs 24 hours a day a # 26 is the best service in the city.

Forgot to mention that you should expect to get charged for parking absolutely everywhere you go in the area.......beaches are no exception.:(
