Got a wee problem with the hard drive. Its a Maxtor Diamondmax Plus 9 160GB SATA 150

Thats the one that is really a PATA with SATA connections...sigh.

So I just bought two external hard drive boxes to put the old HHD in. The first normal SATA works great. The maxtor fails to show up in My computer.

When I first plugged it in I got a blue screen of death... since then it has crashed the PC a few times.

There is nothing on the drive I need, but I cant even find it in Disk manager to format it.

Gah!

Can anyone help with this?

I take it the external boxes are USB - if so can you check Device Manager to see if there's an unknown USB device with the yellow circle/black exclamation mark next to it.

If there is then just right click & uninstall it, then unplug & replug the external drive. This should allow it to redetect the drive, hopefully correctly this time.

Hi, hum, nothing showing up. The actual hard drive case shows up but, with nothing in it so to speak. I am now a bit suspect about the fact it is not a real SATA drive.

I think I will probably just get a new 500gig one of something that will work!

Cheers,

Sam
