That 1st one makes you think what a hard life they must've had ~ we just don't know we're born.

Yes I agree Buttercup. It does doesn't it. We have some many things today that we just take for granted.

Hello Raven,

You could try Dounreay Castle. Not forgotten but not many people can get there. As a professional photographer you might be allowed to do it.

Hi Raven, I loved both of those pictures, they are very dramatic looking i think. A very nice touch (the black and white) to achieve this effect. Reminds me of the days of Robert Burns.;)

Are they HDR images? They look impressive, wish i was savvy enough with computer programs to do them :)

Cheers folks, I am glad you enjoyed them!

Yes, the first one is a genuine HDR shot, in the second one HDR is only applied partially in a layer, the rest is done with d&b...

Try Swona, the grass is very green, if not greener. The buildings are grey and the sky is a beautiful blue. Lots of photo oportunities here. Here's one of my photos;

I think I have seen this one in a fred before... looks very eerie, even in the sunshine. Well maybe in summer there will be a trip available to go there...

There's loads on Skye.It seems quiet common for a whole township to be abandoned and moved further up the glen.

In Uig if you go up the Glen conon road as far as you can, leave the car and then walk past some beautifil waterfalls, you'll find some ruins of houses and the old school house. You carry on walking down the bottom of the Ben and walk along the other side.Takes you out at "fairy glen" and the back of the Uig hotel.
Suppose to be an amazing walk.
Its just far too muddy just now so maybe come the summer.:D

those pictures are breathtaking Raven!

I love looking at old buildings, I remember when we used to get finished our schoolwork in primary 7s in mount pleasant, the teacher would let us take a picture from a big pile to write a story about. I always took pictures of old buildings and wrote ghost stories about them.

Some explanations . . . . . (I'm sure some viewers my be puzzled)

HDR = "High Dynamic range" (i.e. take a range of exposures (using a tripod to steady the view) - some to capture the very bright areas of the image some for the mid tones and some for the dark areas - then combine/overlay them using something like photoshop - you then have a composite image using the best bits of each exposure!!

d&b = "dodge and burn" (just like a real darkroom you can deliberately over or under expose selective parts of the image - again an image editor like photoshop of Paint shop pro will be required)

Raven, you should give Tugmistress some tutorials (apologies if I am too presumptuous here girls . . . .);)

Sorry Tugmistress, I don`t work with PSP, I have PS CS2, so you are all on your own.
No and then I get asked if I do lectures, but even if I would want to, it would be very hard to fit it in with my most times busy schedule.

Love the photos, especialy of the old church in castletown. Looks very spooky but nothing there but rooks, pidgeons and an owl! Seeing buildings like this always makes me wish I had the money or oportunity to renovate them, picturesque as they are.

Know what you mean Twiglet; it is such a shame that lovely buildings are allowed to get so dilapidated until latterly they have to be pulled down. Mind you, so many of them are listed and the owners cannot afford to renovate them making for ludicrous stalemate.

"The powers that be" should provide the finance for same if they insist on making buildings listed; after all, they are supposed to be preserving them for future generations....:confused

Once again Raven, brilliant photographs.

The one above seems slightly familiar, where about is it?

The more I see on this forum, the more I want to see. Keep 'em coming everybody.
