Hi there,

I'm looking for any relatives of Alexander McGregor who was in the 5th Bn Cameron Highlanders and was killed on the 25th September 1915 at the Battle of Loos. Looking for any help to guide me in the right direction.

Many Thanks

Pat

Hallo,
I cant find this person listed on the Commonwealth Wargraves Commission page.
There are several A MacGregors but none killed in 1915.
There are also a couple in the 5th B Cameron Highlanders.

Forgive me - but where did you get the details from ?

I will now check the Caithness Veterans page to see if I can be more helpful.

I've had a good look through my book 'Voices in the Wind' by Ally Budge, but I'm afraid I cant find Alexander McGregor listed.
Can you tell me what are his Caithness connections - town / village etc.

Sorry.

Hi,

Been searching for possible matches for Alexander McGregor, been quite difficult because didn't know where he was from, however, found a McGregor family in the 1891 census and Alex McGregor was 6 in the 1901 census within the same family based in Latheron which seemed to fit the bill. Also, there is an A McGregor on a war memorial in Forse, Latheron, Latheronwheel.

Thanks

Hi
Thanks for this info but not sure if this can be the right person as he was definitely killed at Battle of Loos and was in 5th Camerons as one of the K1 recruits.

Hi - would you happen to know if he was the son or Grandson of Hugh McGregor & Margaret Ross? We have a grandson listed as staying with them in one of the censuses but I can't figure out whos boy he was or what happened to him. I do have a letter from an uncle some time after WW1 that alludes to Alexs' death.

I think you will find him listed in the Roll of Honour on Caithness Archives, address http://www.iprom.co.uk/archives/caithness/roll/rollofmc.htm
He appears to come from Borgie, Berriedale.

According to the Roll of Honour, Alexander would appear to have a brother, George, who was also killed in acion in the First World War, at Arras in 1917. Their names are both on the War Memorial at Berriedale.
