Problem with a friends pc. When starting up, computer looks for hard drive but message

"Hard drive grub fault"

comes up. Windows XP is on one hard drive (C:\) and linux on a separate hard drive (D:\).

Any ideas, please?

Well Grub is boot loader for Linux (The thing that tells it how, where and what to start up). Grub may be poorly (techie term, I don't think) or the hard drive may be knackered.
You could try booting from the linux disk and see if there is an option to repair the installation.

Which Linux is it? I'm sure there will be lots of in depth ways to fix it which someone who has played with Linux will be able to describe for you.

They'll need as many details as possible though

I looks to me that the D: (Linux) drive has failled to get windows back just boot up from XP into command and type fixmbr

Or depending on what distro you have you could try
sudo nano -w /temporary/boot/grub/menu.lst

Or to make things a lot easier try this

http://supergrub.forjamari.linex.org/

it will create a boot up CD where you can edit the grub.
