George Calder marries Ellen Henderson 18/5/1849 in WICK. Thats about all I could find on it. I've managed to hit my very own brick wall, can't find any birth certificates, deaths, or parentage. Does anyone link in to this? or Know.

Any help would be most grateful.

They married in Wick? The marriage was registered in Dunnet where George was born, possibly the son of William Calder and Margaret Dunnet.

Here they are in Thurso on the 1861 census.

Hi fred, thanks ever so much, I had all the details all along, was just reading them the wrong way. had my head burried with it all and just got blind to the details, lesson learned: take a break!

Once again, many thanks, i really appreciate it!

With the births of children he seems to have moved around a bit.

Unfortunately, I think it's a genetic trait within my family tree, I'm having a hell of a time trying to locate multiple marriages, as well as partners, as well as children. Not one of the men really wanted to settle down!!. Luckily though, contraception got invented, and the Roman Cathloics soon filtered out from the Protestants. Historical entertainment at it's best. ;)

My George Calder 'is' the son of William Calder and Margaret Dunnet. I've managed to get back to Margarets Dunnets grandparents, but theres too many Calders called William in Caithness!!!! I'm shooting in the dark here with thumbs in my eyes and asking if anyone knows who my elusive William Calder is. Sorry if I'm being a pain.

These are the families I can find, I treid the census', but my William would be over 40 years old and had already married by the 1841. All the dates match up, but theres too many to 'eenie-meenie-minie-mo' it. :confused

Yeah, that makes sense now. I didn't know they had all those kids, I obviously knew about George, but it's interesting to see Jacobina pop up in 1822, Margaret Dunnets mother was called Jacobina (Swanson b:c1762)...well.. I've finally accepted that she might well be. I hope Katherine Swanson and Jacobina Swanson aren't too closely related! :confused

Thanks for your help Mamie_2, much appreciated.
