My dad told me that there have been a spate of UFO's sighted and reported over orkeny in the last couple of weeks...

Has anyone in Caithness seen any? Recently? or at all??

Personally - I saw one over the Hoy Hills back in the early 80's when I was 11 or 12 yrs old...
A big red ball of light with a small red ball circling it...huge and silent it swooped over Stromness and headed south over the hoy hills...:confused

Very strange indeed...

Think these Orcadians have been in about the Cog's to much...

For those not sure on a Cog (Traditional served at Weddings)... here's the recipe

3.5lt (6 pints) Real Ale
1 bottle Whisky
1 bottle Rum
½ bottle Brandy
½ bottle Port
½ bottle Gin or Vodka
600ml - 1.2lt (1-2 pints) Stout
Sugar
Mixed Spice
Place the ale and stout into a large saucepan and heat gently, but do not allow to boil.
When heated add sugar to taste and allow to dissolve.
Add the spirits and mixed spice to taste.
(Keep tasting until it is 'just right'.)
Heat very gently, but do not allow to boil.
Pour into a large punch bowl or cog.
A cog is round barrel-like wooden container with handles traditional in the Orkneys.

Aye, you're spot on. Each family does it differently, and the recipe is handed down through the generations.

Yes I saw a couple in Thurso walking, I was parked at the bank and they walked all the way from the station down to the town centre, it made quite a change I dont know how happy one of them was about it but the other one seemed to be enjoying it and spoke to a few people.
It takes me back a few years.
