I'm in Halkirk and I think a plane has just gone through the "sound barrier". The bang was incredible and shook the whole house.

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this but I'm in a hurry.

All the best.

yeh sure did! thought something had crashed into the house - pretty scary
i live outside the village and my parents live in the village and they heard it as well.
after checking around the house we put it down to the low flying planes

There is sand blasting work going on at the railway line, to the west of the level crossing. If you think it's from there please call Environmental Health on 01955 607737.

It sounded like a plane going through the sound barrier, don't know if they would do that here though. I've heard the sound barrier being broken before but it was a long time ago(space shuttle landing in california when i was on holiday)

heard it too, quite scary, thought the roof was coming in. It was followed by the sound of a plane.

I think it would have been a jet - one went over us on the Hill of Forss around that time, I've never heard anything like it and we are right in a regular flight path.

This was in the Orkney papers last year -might explain it:? (Sorry it's from a newspaper)
"Reports of an earth tremor in Orkney on Wednesday have been put down to the shock from a supersonic aircraft.
The Orcadian heard from people in the West Mainland and Rousay who believed there had been an earthquake, but the British Geological Survey network of sensors recorded what appeared to be "a sonic event", said a spokesman.
"The good atmospheric conditions would have amplified it, so the plane could have been some miles away."
Similar reports of earthquakes were common in Fife, around RAF Leuchars, and around the Irish Sea when supersonic fighters were being tested there, he said"

the noise was a plane. i would be concerned if sand blasting a bridge could make you think that the roof of your house was falling down lol

I am currently in college up in Halkirk Achavrole, and heard the noise the horses were terrified. Tutor phone up the police and because the college is in the line of flights for the jet they said it was most likely to be the jets breaking the sound barrier. Originally thought it was blasting from the quarry up there but it was closed. Indoor school and the classrooms shook quite bad.
So dont know if it was that but thats what the police said, would be intrested to find out if it was that.

I heard the noise out Dunnet way. Thought it might be rolls of thunder but the weather didn't seem right for that.

You are clearly in violation of the 1986 Superheroes Speed Agreement, which promised superheroes with the ability to fly would not go beyond the speed of sound in built up areas. You will get a letter through the post with the standard £30 fine and loss of flying privileges for two weeks.
