I'm wondering if anyone knows of any place up here to get one or get one made specifically for xmas. I know Harrods and John Lewis do them but just wondered if anywhere in Thurso did them or if anyone can recommend somewhere else?
Thanks.
Could you not get them online? I know my sister did for my mum but I am not sure who she used.

Was trawling thro the business pages on caothness.org and saw a hamper company based at Forss. Will see if I can find it again
No it was a specialist hamper company it came beautifully packaged with lovely stuff in it but not sure where online she got it.

You could always be adventurous and make one up yourself! That way you can find out, and purchase, the things the intended recipient would like.

good answer I have always thought you paid over the odds for made up ones and half the stuff know one uses at least this way you know what they like and no stuffed olives!!!! having said that I would love a Fortnum & Mason just the once
I've used this company for the last couple of years - the hampers etc are lovely.

it was really nice, what i liked about it was that it was in a proper hamper basket and it had a big ribbon wrapped around it. not the usual cardboard box
The grocers shop - JA Mackay - which is on Trail Street in Thurso (next to the Bistro) prepare Xmas Hampers and they use local produce. The telephone number for them is 892811.

I know someone that uses them for hampers every year and unlike online and judith glue (mail order/online) you get what you pay for.
I always find my brother in law difficult to buy for, so I was going to buy a Judith Glue hamper, but the prices were extortionate for what you actually got.
Last year, I made a hamper for a friend. I bought a really nice basket for about £4 and bought the contents - that way I could personalise it and knew none of it would go to waste! They were really chuffed and I'm sure they thought that it was a lot dearer than its actual value, because hampers usually are.
I have a Judith Glue catalogue if you are interested in looking at it.

We get several every christmas for relatives down south. They will send them for you as well. Great value and lovely wrapping.
JA Mackay Grocers in Thurso are excellent for preparing hampers.
I order from them every year and know that the relatives who receive the hampers are well chuffed with what they receive.
You can make a hamper up for any price you want and you can also pick what you want in it or you can leave it up to the sales assistants to make one up for you.
You get good quality as it is local produce that is provided.
It is very reasonable for them to send it as well.
The website for them is www.getwhisky.com.
Anne x - What is wrong with stuffed olives - quite partial myself? All these hamper ideas sound brill thanks everyone.

I would only use Judith Glue if I was truly stuck ;)
Seriously though, as you say, you can save a fortune if you have the time to hand pick your items and make up the hamper yourself.

I've used Mackays for hampers as well. They were really helpful - you can choose the contents according to the recipients and if you can deliver more than one to the same address they only charged one delivery charge.

Ive just looked at their hampers online and they look great... didn't realise alot of their stuff is Orkney based. I will just use their online service but thanks anyway for the offer of the catalogue. I will order one from web too. This is actually ideal for the couple i'm thinking of.
As far as Highland Hampers go... i emailed them but had no reply. I think i will stick to either making one up myself if i can find a decent enough hamper basket or go with JA Mackays or Judith Glue. I did actually think about JA Mackays as i know they have alot of great things in the shop but didn't realise they did Hampers. Will be taking a trip in their tomorrow!!
Thanks all for your help.... :Razz
