Clardon Post Office

Hi everyone:)

I'm appealing for some local knowledge here!

My gx2 uncle Donald McDonald's address on the 1901 census is Clardon Post Office. This is puzzling as he was a farmer all his life...and nobody else listed on the census return seems to be involved with the post office.

Does anyone have any information about the post office or why a farmer might be living there?

Hi Helen, it is perfectly feasible that the farmer was the postmaster as well. Country post offices were not all that busy and the postmaster/mistress often had another occupation running alongside...unless someone knows any different....
