As time unstoppable rolls us along
And all our exchanges are fleeting words
We care just so little when things go wrong
And chances flap away like fleeing birds
What chance for grasping opportunity
When eyes are downcast expecting despair
And life consists of just antipathy
Seeking solace, not knowing to look where
Seek joy! Forget such clinging earthly bonds
The mortgages and loans, the sucking need
For new car, new house, keep up with the Jones
And in casting away those ties, lay seed
Of happiness, at least in peaceful mind
A vague aim, but perhaps the lasting kind
