View Full Version : The Indespensable Man

Some day when you are feeling important.
Some day when your ego's in bloom,
Some day when you may be feeling.
You're the most important man in the room.

Some day when you feel that you're going,
Would leave an unfillable hole,
Just follow this simple example
And see how it humbles your soul.

Take a bucket and fill it with water,
Put both hands in it up to the wrist.
Take them out and the hole that remains
Is the measure of how you'll be missed.

You may splash all you like when you enter,
You may stir up the water galore,
But wait! In a minute
It looks just the same as before.

The moral of this is quite simple.
Do just the best that you can.
Be proud of your self, but remember,
There is no indespensable man.

It is not known who wrote this but who ever it was leaves a lesson for us all.

One day when you feel that the pressure is on
When the bairns all yell and to pub man has gone
When the dinner is burnt and the washing’s no’ done
And your life is comprising precisely no fun

When piece box needs filled and when ironing pile’s high
When the dishes in sink reach up near to the sky
When the budget’s been stretched and there’s no muckle money
And it seems your existence is a’thing but funny

When the car will not start and there’s nappies need changing
And ma-in-law says your house needs re-arranging
In clothes or shoe shops is where you’d love to be
And you’ve trouble in womb with the old PMT

That poem ‘bout man indispensable, please
An image serene that’s designed girl to tease
A world where the man is withdrawn leaving nowt
No more smell of beer, no more danglers and spout

No demanding of favours post night with the boys
No scalextric or trains, no more TV game toys
No unbidden fish suppers, wanted or not
And wearing suspenders gets banned on the spot

But where would you be without man in your life?
Just how would it work, how would you share the strife?
Cos living is hard, sure that’s so very true
And the unit of pair works, your old man and you

Yes a man’s indispensable, woman as well
And although there are times when we make our lives hell
We whine and we rage and we shout and we moan
But we’d all be much less if we were on our own
