JGC are a dynamic and forward-thinking fabrication and engineering company and due to upcoming retirement, we are currently seeking a Workshop Manager.
The primary role is to oversee and manage the manufacturing process of workshop based projects. As the Workshop Manager you will help maintain the reputation gained by JGC for successfully delivering our range of engineering projects in accordance with agreed schedule, budget and all specific project requirements.
The successful applicant must have an established background in mechanical engineering disciplines with particular emphasis on fabrication / manufacturing operations. The position also requires a high level of planning and communication skills.

The Role:
In the position of Workshop Manager, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the successful delivery of our engineering and fabrication projects. Your responsibilities will encompass:


Follow production schedules and program workshop resource for each contract including sub vendor activities.
Maintaining order and enforcing the rules of the workshop including safe and efficient working practices.
Overall management of all workshop activities, with particular focus on resolving any technical issues.
Forecasting and ensuring ordering of materials for specific jobs or for stocks replenishment.
Tracking and reporting progress of each individual job.
Mentoring and assisting Workshop Supervisors as necessary.
Liaise with the Estimating and QA departments for contract handovers to fully understand contract requirements including collating & reporting information from client.
Liaise with Project Engineers / Managers to understand delivery end dates and client expectations.
Liaise and organise sub-contract activities required to complete the project including interacting with third party inspectors.
In conjunction with the QA Department, ensure all applicable codes and industry standards are adhered to throughout the manufacturing process including following an agreed Inspection Test Plan/ MRB.
Review of fabrication drawings to understand works and identify any potential issue with either materials or manufacturing.
Ability to review, check & create a complete bill of materials for the project and pass to procurement being mindful of material budgets, material lead times and delivery requirements.
Undertake engineering and prepare work packs to issue for fabrication to the shop floor.
Ensure all commercial issues are addressed prior to project completion. i.e. agree and submit client variations to estimating department.


The Candidate:
The successful candidate should:


have a sound knowledge and experience of steelwork fabrication and engineering processes.
be fully conversant in reading and understanding engineering drawings and documents.
be a good communicator (both written and verbal) within the business and outwardly towards both customers and suppliers.
be a flexible, reliable and pro-active team player.
have a good understanding of and commitment towards maintaining a safe and productive working environment.
Be computer literate with a good working knowledge of MS Word and Excel as a minimum.
