The UK parliament has heard findings that levelling up - arguably the Conservatives' flagship policy agenda - is beset by critical delays. In a report published on 15 March 2024, the public accounts committee, parliament's expenditure watchdog, has said that, as of September 2023, local authorities had spent only £1.24 billion of the £10.47 billion the government promised to tackle regional inequality across the UK.
