I'm worried aboot ai Black Stairs
An hopin' they ken fit they're doin'
I dinna want till split hairs
But I feel that the plaice is in ruin.

I ken the Stairs wis all worn
An' needan' a lot o' attention
They were there afore I wis born
But fit year - I'd raither no' mention.

The Stairs wis used every day
By those comin' up fae the shore
As they trundled their weary way
Hame till their ane front door.

The mannie's brocht hame a fine fish
The wiffies some bread and some cheese
An there's neathin' more ye could wish
For Everyone's easy till please.

So up the Black Stairs they wad go
Hangin' on ticht till e' rail
As they came till e' top they wad slow
An' feel a wee bittie frail.

But the bairnies wad run doon so fast,
Two at a time they wad go
Hopin' their pennies wad last
Till they reached the shoppie below.

Och I'm worried aboot the Black Stairs
Cos they're makin' it modern I feel
I've given them wan o' ma glares
An tomorrow I'll speak till e' cheil.

Love this poem Trinkie.

I think your feelings are the same as mine - those old Caithness flag stairs were so full of history and character.
