When I was young there was small thought of life
We lived and saw the joy in every day
And though there was much trouble, toil and strife
We managed to grow up a decent way

We didn't have much cash to spend on fun
Our time was spent in making up new games
We all looked out for each and every one
Between the punches, kicks and calling names

On leaving childhood freedoms far behind
The world and its potential clear to see
Though novel path is what we had in mind
Our mums and dads are what we'll finally be

The kid's veneer of self-identity
All varnished in respectability

If cuddly or if tubby I don't mind
The heart that beats beneath's what matters most
And if you're happy, and if you are kind
I'll raise my glass to you in honoured toast

A woman is a thing of wondrous sense
The caring half of partnership of course
And if her body's small or is immense
Her womanhood's a veritable force

And if emotions rapier-like uncurl
Our snake -like conversation passed in hisses
We take great pride in being with the girl
The point of love lies deeper than mere kisses

Because she's mother, girlfriend, wife or pal
We know that we would willing give our all

Wow Tubthumper, what lovely poems. How talented you are. I love to write, but poetry is not my strong point. Thanks for sharing!
