Dicky Diver
by W T Lyall.

If yur walkin roon ai trinkie an ye see a bobbin seal,
Don't throw a ston till hort ade 'cos ye ken 'iss seal too weel,
Go closer till ai water's edge an' take anither look,
Ades only Dicky Diver in a black skin diving suit.

Ye should see 'im when he's all dressed up wi snorkel tube an mask,
Bottled win' strapped on He's back an tools for every task,
Lumps o' leid tied roond he's weist, I houp he'll be a' richt,
Hosepipes stickin oot he's mooth, an awful lookin sicht.

He sweems aboot ai ocean deep an winks till every dab,
Nods his heid an says 'Fine Day' till every passin' crab,
He's kent by fishies beeg an small, chuist fairly takes ai trick,
Ai limpets even ken aboot 'iss black skin diving Dick.

Dicky widna hurt a fish, wi hooks on fishing rods,
He's happy in ai ocean, wi ai cuddings and ai cods,
Ai peltigs see 'im comin' an' oot o' tangles sweem,
Dicky Diver of the deep, their close sub-aqua freend.

Glad you enjoyed that one Tubthumper.
I think 1950s

It comes from his Book 'Clapshot'
published by W T Lyall, 50 Seaforth Ave , Wick.
Printed by Caithness Books, Thurso, Caithness.

I love his poems and find them not only amusing but a constant reminder as to the folk and places of that time.

Look out for more !
