View Full Version : Empire bar
Anyone know where this bar was?
in what town..?!?!
sorry in wick
The Empire Bar was in Back Bridge Street owned by Davy Gunn who built it at the beginning of the 20th century, I believe that it was completed about 1906 and his specialty was "Gunn Blend" whisky.
I was told that was known as "gunners bar" and he made his own beer, and the empire bar was in williamson street will have to investigate further.
Before Wick went dry in 1922 the pubs in Lower Pulteney were ; The Crown at footof Black Stairs, Anchor near foot of Rose Street, Victoria now Harbour Cafe,Alliance, 13 Telford St. Skinners, now Telford House, Town & County at41/43 Telford St. Heather Bell 23 Saltoun St. and the Steamboat Bar at the foot of Shore Road. The Lorne Hotel stood on thecorner of Bank Row/Williamson Street, the last owner of which was DavidinaBremner, it closed as a hotel in 1929.
The Empire Bar was certainly in Back Bridge Street, it may well have been referred to as Gunner's bar, Davy Gunn formerly ran the Farmer's Inn in Bridge Street
