Rogue grass in lawn

Our lawn this year has a lot of hard, ugly grass in it - I hope this pic is clear enough. Does anyone know what it is and if it can be got rid of? Thanks.

Hi laguna2 - I've found that it's probably 'poa annua'. Fire up your search engine...

Fired it up ... and I think that it could be that or something like that.
