Can someone help decipher?

On my gggrangmother's death record (Isabella Robertson/McIvor d. 1855 aged 92 at Wick), it states her 'issue'.

One of them is: James dec. act?/ret? 48 in 1843

Any suggestions welcome. Can't find him in 1841. Could he have been a soldier?

Helen, apart from James deceased I would use the Acronyms and Abbreviations website on Google to look at possibilities for the act and ret.

There are 174 possibilities for the first so you can see if any of them fit.

Just key in acronyms and abbreviations into your search engine and take it from there.
