The ancestors that I'm looking for are James Sutherland c1811-1871, and his wife Marion MacKay c1811-1877. Marion was born in Tongue, Sutherland, but seemed to spend most of her married life (1831-) in Latheron. Her name appeared as Mary on the 1851 census, Mary Ann on the 1861, Marion on her son Hugh's marriage certificate in 1867 and Maryan on the 1871 census ... take your pick!! My line goes through their son Hugh Sutherland (c1843 Latheron), who married Margaret Ferguson (1843 Latheron, see below) at Forse Inn, Latheron on 03/12/1867, then their son John Sutherland (1880 Pulteneytown/Wick, known as Jock), who was my great-grandfather.
Also interested in John Cormack (c1780, probably Caithness) and Henrietta Sutherland (c1776, Latheron), who married on 24/03/1798 in Latheron. Of their children, Tricia has given me much information about Alexander (c1811 Latheron); and Rachel (1812 Latheron) is my ancestor - she married James Ferguson (1805 Golspie Sutherland) at Latheron on 04/01/1833, and was mother to Margaret, listed above.
I'd love to hear from anybody who is also researching these people.
