An important date for your diary – Norlin’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) and vital information about the possible closure of Norlin in August 2015.

Norlin is holding their Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Tuesday 10th June 2014 at 7pm to currently seek new committee members – a crèche is also available on the night for parents/carers to use while in attendance at the AGM. We are always looking for new volunteers to join our committee so whether you are a parent/carer or just someone who has an interest in our centre you are welcome to attend our AGM.

Are you interested in learning new skills?
Would you like to meet new people?
Would you like to share your skills, time and ideas with others?
Have you ever wanted to improve the running of our centre as you have an interest in it?

If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, then we would love to hear from you especially on the night of our AGM.

Becoming a committee member, we ask that you give a few hours commitment a year in order to support the playgroup and to also make a significant impact for the children and their families who attend our centre. Working as part of a committee is all about opportunities – for the centre, but also for yourself – and from small beginnings, you could find yourself taking a new direction in life which will have positive benefits for future opportunities and especially for your CV.
There are lots of ways you can contribute to the committee and you can choose to give as much or as little time as you can spare. The good thing is you don't need any experience to make a difference.

As a committee member a part of your role will be to support the playgroup in relation to the new proposed pre-school provision. Anyone with an interest in pre-school provision within Wick and anyone you know within the surrounding areas is welcome to attend and we are hoping to make people aware of the changes coming into effect from August 2015 which directly involves all pre-school children but especially those below the age of three.

Playgroups and nurseries, as we currently know them, will no longer be after August 2015 on the North side of the River in Wick – it will be classed as pre-school provision and under the one management which could possibility result in the playgroup closing all together once the new school is built.

The bottom line being, if pre-school provision goes to local authority (council run) then its most likely there will be no groups for those children under the age of three as local authority only accommodate for children aged 3 years and above whereas partner centre’s (like us) accommodate for children from the age of 2 years. We are also in the process of adding additional services to Norlin in relation to the feedback given to us from stakeholders and the wider community to further meet community needs.

If Norlin can push for the pre-school provision to go out to tender and a partner centre (like us) is awarded the tender, then there will be a guaranteed number of spaces available to children under the age of three for our future children as well as the hopeful successful additional services.

This is a very complex issue and all we have done here is to give you the blunt basics but, if you are interested to find out more please feel encouraged to attend our AGM on Tuesday 10th June 2014. Please also make other people aware about the complex issue and also about our AGM, especially to those people who will be affected when the proposed new school opens i.e parents/carers with children under the age of three and expected mothers to be.

Kind Regards,
Norlin Committee

Can you say where the AGM is being held and I will pop it into the What's On section.

Sorry Bill. I missed that wee bit of information out :(

The AGM is being held at the Playgroup which is up at the North Primary School. Best way to get access is from the Ackergill Street side of the school.

Thank you very much Bill.
