The Met Office still expects a brief period of wintry weather as cold Arctic air continues to extend southwards across the UK.
Showers today, Thursday, will turn increasingly to snow mainly across Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales particularly in areas exposed to the strong northerly winds.
In exposed northeastern parts of Scotland local blizzard conditions are possible with drifting snow in strong to gale force winds.
