An ancestor died in Louisburgh in 1878. The informant on her Death Certificate is Inspector of Poor.
Can anyone tell me if there was a Poorhouse in Louisburgh at that time. There is no address on the Death Certificate. Just Louisburgh. Thank You
Kathleen

No, Wick and Latheron shared a poorhouse, it was on the Latheron Thurso road.

Not everyone on the poor register went to the poorhouse, most got relief in other forms.

Thank you for that. Greatly appreciated. Was Louisburgh a village outside Wick or what would nowadays be termed a suburb.
