Hi, Have a look at the latest entry for Macaulay. I think it may be part of the missing link.

Seal,

Davelna suggested checking the latest posting for Macaulay. If referring to the Macaulay/Miller of Thrumster posting then that was originally posted by me.

However, I am not aware of any link between the Macaulay family you are researching, and that of the family I am interested in. Having said that, the John Macaulay you are interested in, if linked to the family I am researching, would have to be through a brother of Angus Macaulay who was married to Christina Miller. Angus and Christina had their children in the period you are looking at, so the father of your John (b. 1864) could possibly be a brother of Angus. Unfortunately I have never been able to find a birth or baptism record for my Angus so I am unable to link in with your information.

There seem to have been a few Macaulay families in Caithness around this time so there isn't necessarily going to be any link anyway.

Although you have John's occupation recorded as "Distillery Night Watchman" on his son's marriage record, is there any corroborating information from his birth certificate in 1864? Sometimes you can be lucky and there will be an entry in the "Register of Corrected Entries" for the birth which names the father, even if it happened that he wasn't named on the birth certificate at the time.

Regards,
Steven McGregor
