View Full Version : Reclamation Yards
We are currently going through the planning process for a new house but would like to use as many reclaimed building materials as possible. Does anybody now of any building reclamation yards or similar in the Caithness area?
Many thanks

There are no reclaimation yards as you would know them in Caithness, we used to visit them a lot when we lived in Devon, maybe it's an idea for a new business for someone!

I wouldn't have thought there was much to reclaim - it's all being tarted up in situ and sold to English folk at inflated prices!:) :(

Oh, you'd be surprised what folk will buy, I once sold a granite fireplace that needed a lot of restoration for a fair amount of money to a Scottish couple who wanted to 'tart up' the home they'd bought in Devon!
Things are worth what people will pay! We don't have yards here because no one knocks things down, they just leave it and build a new one.
What we are really after are things like roofing slates.
Theres a crowd in Glasgow called direct slates who deal in second hand slates. Nowadays theres not much difference in price between new slates and old slates. Chinese slates can be bought new cheaper than second hand Welsh slates and to be honest theres no difference in quality. Shop around.
Google second hand slates.
