Aircraft noise last night

Does anyone know what the aircraft that was flying at a high altitude was doing last night? It was going back an forth over Castletown and Thurso for a couple of hours and the noise eventually stopped around 11pm

It was way to high to be looking for the lost divers from Orkney and looked quite a small aircraft but with lots of jet noise.

No idea but it was pretty annoying, assuming it was the jet engines which went on until 2300. It was very loud here in Reay. It definitely sounded military but checking the websites I could find nothing about an exercise last night. Stopped now though. :)

there was some exercise going as the following day out here there were typhoons and tornados play fighting. At one stage a tornado put it in afterburn mode and went straight up.
