hi could someone advise please?
washing machine is washing ok on normal cycles, draining no problem too. however if you leave it a while before you empty it, it fills back up with several inches of water??
any help?
thanks

We had that problem with a washing machine too. The fault lay in the pressure of the cold water inlet...it was too strong for the inlet valve to cope with. Turning back the stop-cock on the house water inlet cured it.
Hope this helps.

In that case, the inlet valve maybe isn't closing properly...could there be some obstruction?
is this clean or dirty water?
if you've not got a high up loop in your outlet hose that feeds the sink or out the wall
it could be back fill.
surely it must be doing this when empty too?
when you leave it empty, does the water look dirty?
if it s clean water
goto the back of machine
turn off & disconnect the cold water feed
and pour some descaler down the pipe
and leave it for a while [couple of hours]
then reconnect the water
turn it on
and do a wash with nothing in the machine to flush the descaler out the machine
bet its the water pressure though as advised by the other poster
