I am interested in buying a pH meter (not the expensive and delicate type found in Chemistry labs) to measure the pH of soil and a Moisture meter to measure the moisture in soil. These would be used at a school (and perhaps on field trips) and would hopefully be used many times over a period of years. There seem to be a number of relatively cheap ones on the market.

I am looking for ones that are robust and reliable without being too expensive. Ones that I have seen in the shops don't appear to need batteries (unless there is a battery built in - in which case the meter would need to be replaced when the battery was done).

If I look at the packaging of the cheap ones on sale in shops, there is often very little information about the product. I have searched on the Internet and found it difficult to find out much more. How accurate are the cheap ones? Are there any particular problems associated with them? Can anyone recommend one?

They come with a "comprehensive booklet". :)
