According to Baroness Shirley Williams there is nothing wrong with covering Caithness and
Sutherland in wind farms because these places are virtually empty apart from sheep:eek:

So sheep need schools, hospitals, shops and MPs?

To be fair, they are virtually empty.

Another narcissistic Champaign socialist who has spent little or no time at all in Scotland never mind Caithness and Sutherland. I’m surprised she knows where these counties are. Shirley Williams’ greatest claim to fame was to help create the comprehensive education system; then made sure her own daughter didn’t attend one. She sent her offspring to an independent voluntary aided school that operated free and clear of the comprehensive system.

I'm surprised that Shirley Williams should make such an ignorant statement. I met her, in the 1980's and she was charm itself. 'Though I do agree with Gronnucks' post about the hypocrisy of champagne socialists. The likes of Diane Abbot, Harman, Ruth Kelly and Blair also spring to mind. All of them fought against Grammar Schools and supported Comprehensives, even though they weren't good enough for their offspring. But I'm disappointed with Shirley!

It would be interesting to see a response from John Thurso regarding his LibDem colleague's views. But then that is the dichotomy which John Thurso creates within the LibDem's ranks. He is more tory than Libdem going by his parliamentary voting record. Unfortunately you can't say his rosette is yellow with a tinge of blue because that makes green!

But then this creates a political problem as well, everyone knows that wind farms have to go somewhere, so if we were to take the tory position backbench position then wind farms must go where they enjoy more wind and where there is less people to object to them, ie places like Caithness and Sutherland. A vote for tory is a vote for a wind turbine in Caithness.

But then that is Shirley's view isn't it? Well not really, she is just promoting LibDem's general policy on renewable energy. A vote for LibDem is a vote for a wind turbine in Caithness.

A vote for SNP is a vote for a turbine in Caithness as well. Labour is probably the same.

I've gone full circle and that is the problem for politicians, unless you want to vote BNP or UKIP which are against wind farms. Is that a price to pay though to get wind farms off the horizon?
