Interesting. Thank you.

Did you see this too?

If they go for this then it will also take pressure off the Flow Country. Far fewer wind farms in Scotland.

Do you think any of the felled wood will be made available to locals or will it be taken down the road for max profit? Now I'm no betting man, but....

The wood gets buried pulled down by diggers wont be anything but mess for generations, strange way to spend 4 million with the current state of the country.

Sorry I didn't realise the Lottery fund was supposed to be used for deficit reduction and stimulating the economy.

How do you restore (or preserve) a bog?

How do you restore (or preserve) a bog?

Good question!

I'm no expert but I've been out on the ranger walks and picked up on a few things that they've said. They are very much into chopping trees down to prevent crows from perching in them because from there they can predate on bog-loving species.

Trees also have an effect on drainage as well, or drying out the land or even introducing oxygen into the bog thus upsetting the nutrient balance.

Bog preservers are also right into their retaining walls. A well placed retaining wall can stop drainage and bring back a bog to its original condition.

Total shite. First there were grants to change bog to grass, then grass to trees, then trees to bog!! You cant "restore" the bog.It has been changed over the last 40 years and will take hundreds of years,at least,to get back to a not all that simillar state as it was 40 years ago. Letting the trees grow to harvest will not alter the timescale for "restoration" of the bog.Total waste of rescources and not very "green"

I must admit that it sounds like a lotta lottery money to spend on a few square miles of bog, but then again there are likely worse things to spend it on....
