It would seem that the mobile phone companies are going to spend billions on the new 4th generation stuff and up here (and other remote less populated areas) can't even get 3 mobile - well you can outside but not inside apparently! And there are loads of us who have really slow to non existant broadband. Wouldn't it be nice if the powers that be in these companies spent just a little of the billions getting everyone to the same level of cover before rolling out something new. Of course they won't there aren't enough of us and the profits wouldn't be there, but I can hope

Except we have funding for it, It's just being wasted (http://forum.caithness.org/showthread.php?185492-BT-have-moved-the-broadband-upgrade-date-once-again-to-31-03-2013-this-time...-sigh). Add to that the fact that companies are inflating the costs of rolling out broadband in rural areas (http://br0kent3l3ph0n3.wordpress.com/2012/10/01/dcms-sacks-bduk-whistleblower-over-bt-nga-price-leak/).

Also on a side note lots of things in cities and urban areas are funded and subsidised. They don't make good business sense and yet they happen. The public paid for infrastructure and then just handed it over to private companies who screw us.

Yes, thanks for that epiphany. The link was a recent general example of the sort of dodgy practices telecommunications corporations engage in. Also BT actually control the upstream for these networks that is the links the cell towers connect to and the route ultimately take to access IP services and the Internet.

Thanks for you informative response.
So you are suggesting that all telecommunications companies are run in the same mould as BT then?
I admit I havent read either of you links but I was not aware of funding being set aside to provide 4g cellular telecommunications in Caithness, as you eluded to earlier.
