Help,
Has anyone found a way of taking high doses of antibiotics without feeling sick or having a sore stomach.I'm not allergic to ethromyocine its just the 8 tablets a day I'm having problems with.:~(
Aww sounds awfull, have you tried eating a banana before you take the dose? Or you could try eating some natural yoghurt?
Really hope your feeling better soon, i'll pop in and say hi one day this week:D
Lots of r & r required I think and drink plenty x

My wife takes Acidophilus and anything containing probiotics (yoghurt drinks etc)
I've done some research and some claims are made that it reduces stomach problems when taking antibiotics.
I guess the idea is to keep on topping up with good bacteria to replace those that are lost to the antibiotic.
I took the yoghurt drinks when I was taking a treatment for Helicobacter pylori (3 lots of antibiotics for 2 weeks) it seemed to help.

I'd check with your doctor before taking this advice, but what works for me is taking a travel-sickness tablet before taking erythomycin. It's the only way I can keep them or anything else down when taking a prescription.

Thanks everyone.
Prebotic drinks help my stomach as its dodgy anyway.Had a banana before lunch time dose, made know difference.Have now got trapped wind spasm so have taken peppermint oil capsuals.
Travel sickness tablets sound the next step as i have got to last the week on these things.Talk about feeling worse before I feel better:lol:

Poor you cuddlepop.
You should stop taking Erythromycin if it is making you sick and go back to your doctor.
See:-
Stop using erythromycin and call your doctor at once if you have any of these serious side effects:ˇchest pain, uneven heartbeats, feeling light-headed or fainting;ˇnausea, stomach pain, low fever, lost appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes); orˇdiarrhea that is watery or bloody.
A lot of folk can't take this drug for that very reason - me included.
I do hope that this is of some help and that you'll be feeling better soon.

Have you tried steam inhalation for your sinus problem. Put a spoonful of Vick's chest rub in a cup of hot water and breath in the vapours. jan x
Cuddlepop - something my ol' ma always swore by (and I found it works) is to buy some menthol crystals from the chemist, dissolve a few in a bowl of hot water and then get your ad over the bowl with a tea towel over your head to trap the vapours.
Something else I found helps is to get a cup of hot sweet tea and take a mouthful as hot as you can stand and hold it in your mouth squidged up between your teeth, so the heat eases your sinuses.
Hope you get it sorted soon. :)

May sound a bit funny but an old wifes tale is to inhale the fumes of burning sugar to clear a bad sinus attack.
I personaly stick to paracetamol and flixonase steroidal inhaler but you never know.
Oh poor Cuddlepop!:( You have my sympathy as I know how miserable sinusitis can make you feel.
Probiotics are a good idea but don't take them at the same time as the antibiotics ie take them a few hours apart. Taking the probiotic at bedtime would be a good idea.
Inhaling Menthol Crystals is a good idea but with Eucalyptus oil. Also Olbas Oil is really good.
I found a really good product on Ebay from a shop called Naturally Pure Blends. It is a rollerball which you rub under your nose a couple of times and breathe deeply.
Maybe taking something like Echinacea over the winter months would be a good idea as this will boost your immune system. Bioforce make the best one I think.
Hope you feel better soon.
Take care

My old doctor used to advise sniffing salt water up the nasal passages and then spitting out! It's not very pleasant but does help a bit, natural sea salt is mother natures own purifier and cleanser! Much better for you than some of the drugs that the doctors dish out today! :)

Feeling a little better today.Antibiotics working and a little less tired.
ENT consultant had advised salt washes as the way to keep the passages open but haven't been brave eneogh to do it yet.
Never realised how ill bunged up sinuses could make you feel.I've had them cleaned out before and the Gp has advised against doing the procedure again.Suggested a permenent low dose of antibiotic over the winter months when this infection clears.

Hi Jackie sorry to hear your dillema. If the erythromycin is causing you bother go back to your gp and tell them its making you feel sick :( theres no need to suffer. There is another antibiotic clarithromycin which is just as effective on your bugs but will not make you as sick and its only taken twice a day.Hope this helps you out. xx Take care and let me know how you get on :D

Thanks Alice,Dont feel sick anymore just knackered.
The hardest thing about working for the Health service is remembering your no use to anyone if your sick. Stop pushing yourselve to go in even when you know you shouldn't cause in the end your off for longer anyway(message to myself)

Jackie the worst thing about working in the health service is the guilt you feel at having to take the day off knowing that everyone is working at full stretch most of the time and you are right rest now or repent later :(
I hope you are home and off for a few days ,feet up and let mr cp give you some tlc.
Glad to hear your feeling a bit better Jackie:cool:
I was all ready for coming around today, but with the weather, I hid under the stairs instead:lol:

I've had chronic sinusitis since enduring a rather damp motorcycling holiday in Aberfeldy six years ago.
Numerous and varied anti biotics wouldn't budge it, niether would an operation.
I fanally went to see an ENT specialist in Dumfries two weeks ago. Acording to him sinusitus doesn't always respond well to anti biotics. He prescribed 'NASONEX' nose spray. After only a couple of says I can smell and taste again.
If your tablets don't work, ask your GP for a shot of this nasal spray.
Happy sniffing.

I also use Nasonex and it works wonders! I also take a Singulair tablet every night and wake up each morning with a clear head....fabulous!
sorry, it's Nasarel... aka Flunisolide or Flonase

I was told that you have to clear the infection first.Have been prescribed a nasal spray before and it does work think it was Flixanase.
Changed all my bedding for anti allergy stuff in the summer, laminated the floor in the bedroom and got rid off all sprays in the house for cleaning or room freshners.Tried a dairy free diet but still succumed to this infection.Haven't a clue what else to do.:confused
