Accessing Windows mail

When I try to access my Windows Mail I keep getting this warning.

"C:\Program Files\WindowsLive\Mail\wimail.exe
The application has failed to start because its side by side configuration is incorrect.
Please see the Application Event Log for more detail."
Can anyone help, thanks in anticipation

How's Golach ?

If this has just started happenning simplest fix would be to do a system restore from a back up taken when it wasn't happenning.

If it has been like this for a while it suggests you have some corrupt files - probably the the Visual C Runtime library.
We can prob fix this by running sfc /scannow or uninstalling /re installing the runtime library.

A system restore would be the simplest option for you.
However, I can prob give you instructions for the more complicated fix if necessary.

Are you still running Vista - or is it Windows 7?

Charlie, still running Vista, any simple instructions would be a help, have had this for a wee while now, have tried the system restore, worked once, then the problem started over

Vista makes it simpler - I assume you still have the install CD?

If so, let's try and make Vista fix itself.

That website is a bit slow - copy/paste here to assist.

1. Open a Command Window in Administrator mode:* clickStart
* click All Programs, thenAccessories
* right click on the Command Prompt option,
* on the drop down menu which appears, click on the Run as Administratoroption.
* If you haven’t disabled User Account Control (and you shouldn’t!) you will be asked for authorisation. Click the Continue button if you are the administrator or insert the administrator password.
2. Start the System File Checker
* In the Command Prompt window, type:sfc /scannow,
* press Enter.
* You’ll see “the system scan will begin”.
The scan may take some time and windows will repair/replace any corrupt or missing files. You will be asked to insert your Vista DVD if it’s needed.
Close the Command Prompt Window when the job is finished.

If none of that works it's probably a runtime error, most likely the Visual C stuff. Download and install these. If they're already installed choose the repair option, or try uninstalling them and then reinstalling. The x86 stuff if for 32-bit and the x64 for 64-bit, if you're not sure start with the x86 stuff. Each of these downloads has the same name 'vcredist_x86.exe' or 'vcredist_x64.exe' so either choose run from the download options, save them as a different name or do one at a time and delete.
