I think all business owners should read this..................

http://www.scottishwater.co.uk/business/our-services/wholesale-services/market-opening

Looks like our water is going the same way as our power companies, trains, phones and internet.....etc, etc!!

Not sure about ripped off but it appears that any business generating 'trade effluent' must apply for consent (http://www.business-stream.co.uk/waste-water-trade-effluent/trade-effluent) - Business Stream is a Scottish Water company but not sure if others will offer a better deal.

EDIT: Just read your reply and realise I misread your original post - apologies...

I agree about the effluent charge but a charge for the rain water is a rip off its funny how they came out the woodwork only when the small companies do not have to pay anymore rates on their properties

Any company which asks you to set up a DD over the phone has to be regarded with suspicion!

They are linked to Scottish Water, they are the ones who you pay for your water, waste, trade effluent and drainage which of course includes rainwater. It is not a ripoff, every other business has to pay it and if you don't want to start a DD over the phone then ask them to send a mandate out to your address.
