Love the time lapse sequence Maciek. There's some cracking pics posted from the Wick side of the county capturing the display.

I wish the ones I took in Thurso turned out as good (http://www.caithness-science.org/index.php?option=com_agora&task=topic&id=39&p=5&Itemid=57#p303).

Does anyone have any idea what sort of time is the best to see the lights, or is it just pot luck ?

Today and now is good chance of aurora but it's cloudy.
For auroras forecast check regularly these websites:
http://www.spaceweather.com/
http://www.gi.alaska.edu/AuroraForecast/3
When there is a forecast of 5 or more like today, than there is very likely to see aurora here.
