Help, going in circles

Hello techy's,
can you advise please, I wish to convert MOV123/AVI to something I can send by way of email,
I have downloaded all sorts of programs as advised off the internet, all to no avail, all are double dutch and I am now in total confusion.

Can you tell me what I need to convert the AVI to? pretty please :)

Nb; I don't want to upload to the likes of youtube, I just want to enable friends to see the film.

An AVI file should be watchable for 99% of Computer users.

Just email your friends the AVI file and they should be able to watch it.

If they can't, tell them to sort their computer out :O)
