Is the music shop in Thurso still open, visiting at the weekend and could do with a set or two of guitar strings.

Depends when you were last in Thurso. The Shearers Music Shop has been closed since some time but there is another in the pedestrian precinct which sells musical instruments and, I presume, guitar strings.
