This link below may be of some interest to those concerned about the cost of using their central heating systems this winter. I am sceptical about e-petitions but at least it gives a remote chance of making a point to a Government that is out of touch with it's population.

Does any one know if the Scottish Government do this type of thing ?.

If you actually want to make an impact and get your message across to politicians you are far better doing it the old fashioned way. In general petitions are ignored.

Contact your MP/MSP as this is a VAT matter your MP is the better bet as that is a UK matter, not a Scottish matter. You can contact them easitly using http://www.writetothem.com/

Ask you MP to ask the chancellor and chief secretary to the treasury if they have considered reducing VAT to zero rated on fuel oil. Your MP is duty bound to put the question in writing to the appropriate person, and provide the response to you in writing. It most likely won't make any difference, but it is far more effective than any petition - unless you can get well over the 100000 signatures required for it to be considered for consideration by parliament.

Thanks for the advice, as I say I am not convinced about the e-petitions and have always thought the number of signatures required to get one heard is unrealistic .
P.S. The petition is not mine.
Thanks again.

I agree with the comments about e-petitions. As for price increases. They can be expected just like the cost of everything goes up, up, and out of sight.
