Laptop update now frozen on command prompt

I just downloaded latest Microsoft Windows 7 Updates and my laptop restarted only to go direct to completely blank screen with a command prompt which wont accept any input.

Also unable to access setup page / safemode options using F2.

Help !

safemode is F8

keep hitting that after the pc 'beeps'
then select 'last known good'

i would suspect you have downloaded a microsoft 'update' for one of the devices within the PC under the options update tab
all you need to do once is going is to 'hide' that update.
