Alexander Henderson, age 6, appears on the 1881 Census in Thurso with grandparents, Alexander & Ann Lyall (nee Simpson). In 1891, at age 16, he appears with uncle, Benjamin Lyall and widowed grandmother, Ann Lyall. His occupation is shown as letter carrier.

In 1920 it appears to be the same Alexander Henderson on uncle, Hugh Lyall's parish death record, as Informant.

IGI shows an Alexander Henderson born to James Henderson and Margaret Lyall on 6 Jun 1874. Is this the same Alexander Henderson?

Interested in corresponding with anyone connected to the family. I am a descendant of Margaret Lyall that was married to John Henderson in June, 1882. Possibly this Alexander Henderson is a half-brother to my father.

You might be right in saying that Alexander was a half brother but I can't confirm that as this is all I have on that family line. Do you know Alexander's parents are for sure Margaret & James Henderson? Any help you can give me on filling in this tree is great.
Thanks Jackie

Jackie-- it is 1 a.m. here right now and my husband' sleeping, so I don't want to print your message out to compare with what I have down. I took the parents of Alexander Henderson as James Henderson and Margaret Lyall from the IGI and I was just guessing at the birth date from the age given on the census. So those parents are not definite, just surmised. There weren't too many Alexander Hendersons born in that area for that time period. Much of what I have found on the Henderson and Lyall lines came from IGI extractions.

Margaret Lyall married John Henderson 23 Jun 1882. Off hand I don't remember where I found that date. I did look at Parish Records while in Salt Lake City many years ago. My records are not the greatest right now. For many reasons I have not spent that much time on my personal research the past few years.

I believe John and Margaret left for Canada/USA shortly after their marriage. Did she leave this son, Alexander, with her parents?

The first son of John and Margaret, born in 1883, was another Alexander Henderson. He was born in Hamilton, ON, Canada. He died in 1892.

I tried writing you about a month ago when I found your listing but never had a reply. I thought perhaps your address was no longer "good".

I am excited about this possible reason for Alexander Henderson to be listed in the Lyall household. I'm wondering if he ever married and had children?
