“ENERGY IN CAITHNESS” PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION
The Caithness International Science Festival has been running science events for 10 years. To celebrate, Festival organiser Science O3 is launching a photography competition for local students and amateur photographers.
The 2012 Festival’s theme will be “Energy in Caithness”. Photographs exploring this theme can be submitted by email to: scienceo3@kelvinprobe.com or via the Science O3 Facebook page. Hard copies of photos can also be submitted to the Science O3 office c/o KP Technology, 12A Burn Street, Wick KW1 5EH.
Photographs submitted electronically should be in JPEG format, at least 1.5MB and no larger than 5MB and available at a sufficiently high resolution (at least 300dpi) for printing.
The competition will have the following categories for entrants:
· Primary P1 – P4;
· Primary P5 – P7;
· 11 – 18 years of age; and
· Over 18 years.
Only one entry per individual will be accepted. Entries should also include the entrant’s full name, age, address, phone number and email address and a short caption to accompany the photograph. A selection of photographs may be used in future Caithness International Science Festivals.
Award-winning photographer John Baikie will judge the finalist entries and prizes will be awarded at a ceremony at Caithness Horizons in September. A “people’s choice” award, run through the Facebook site, will also be held, where the public can vote for their favourite photograph.
The winner of the Over-18’s section will receive a (£100) cash prize for photographic equipment. Winners in the Primary and 11-18 age groups will receive an hour’s tutorial with John Baikie. Runners up in each category and the winner of the “people’s choice” vote will each receive book tokens.
The closing date for entries is 5.00pm on Friday, 2nd September 2011. Any questions can be forwarded to helen@kptechnology.ltd.uk.
