How to open a 306 bonnet

I'm bamboozled!!! I've googled it but get 2 different answers neither of which work! I think maybe the handle broke off because I can't find the lever anywhere inside the car.
Anyone got a 306 and can open their bonnet! Lol
It's a 2000 hdi.

Is it on the underneath of the steering column out of sight?

My mum has a 1999 306 diesel and her bonnet lever is under the dash on drivers side near the door :D

it is under the left hand side of the steering column pull to open,then go round the front of the car and under the bonnet feel for the release lever to the left hand side of the lion badge push,failing that remove the lion badge and use a srewdriver to nudge the bit to release it.

The handle was broken, luckily can open from the front.
