I know this is a long shot does anybody here have a local street map for ackergill showing the positions of all the houses. if not does anybody know how much the council charge for one and who do i contact.

Check out Google Maps you might find what you need there if you set the map to Satelite. That way you can see every house and Building.

And if you enable the distance measuring tool in Google Maps, you can measure between them.

Councils are not normally purveyors of mapping services. If you Google for Ordnance Survey, they are just one provider of map data, right down to very detailed mapping data that shows positions of individual buildings suitable for making planning applications for example. Comes at a cost though!
