The Camps derby proved to be a classic encounter on monday night, with one team fighting relegation and the other fighting to retain their championship.
William Ewart got the match underway, but failed to pot anything off the break which resulted in Camps2 player Ryan Carter clearing the table in 1 visit to leave Ewart with 7 balls on the table.
This didnt seem to put off the Camps1 players in the slightest as they won the next three frames with wins from George Smith, Liam More and Iain Jones. Ian Mcdonald and David Hendry worked hard in the next two frames to pull it back to 3-3. The experienced pairing of Carter and Honeyman saw Camps2 take a 4-3 lead, but Camps1 battled back to go 5-4 ahead. The next frame resulted in Camps1 being left with 7 balls on the table again as Ryan Carter, Bruce Honeyman and Andy Mcwatt combined perfectly to take the match to a deciding frame. After a long tactical battle, Camps2 finally got the opportunity to clear the table which was expertly finished by Ian Mcdonald.
A near identical match took place out in lybster as Steve Atkins' Bayview1 faced Perry Campbells' Blackstairs1. Everyone involved played to an extremely high level in a match where both teams recorded grannies against each other. The teams were only seperated by a deciding frame, which was won by Campell's team.
The Francis Street Club kept their title challenge on course, after an extremely hard fought 7-4 victory against Ryan Cook's Blackstairs2 side.
Crown1 are also still in with a chance of winning the first division after defeating Sinclair Bay 6-5. An entertaining match saw Gary Swanson win all three of his games, and Alan Larnach clear the table in the deciding frame for Crown1.
The second division title race took an unexpected twist as Queen2 lost out 7-4 to Crown2. The Seaforth Club take over as league leaders as they defeated Mountain Dew2 in a thoroughly entertaining encounter. The game set off at blistering pace for The Seaforth Club as they went 5-0 ahead, however all focus seemed to drain from them as the Mountain Dew side took the next five frames to level the match. The crucial frame was clinched by Kevin Beales, which means a win for The Seaforth Club next monday will see them crowned division two champions in their debut season.
There will be an open pool tournament in The Camps Bar tomorrow (sat 26th march) at 1.30pm with prize money and trophies up for grabs.
